Hello friend,

It's time for a monthly dose of news from me, Kim, on behalf of our team of nine.

5 items to read up:

  • What's the open rate of this newsletter?
  • Our upcoming version is nearly ready
  • Already 1.5 million downloads
  • Building the right team
  • We've been to Miami, Belo Horizonte, Lille & soon Hamburg

Ready? Set... Go!

What's the Open Rate of This Newsletter?

Many first time emailers are horrified when they are confronted with their stats.

"Only 30% of subscribers read my emails! More than half of my list ignored me", I've heard from aghast, or even hurt, users.

It makes me smile because a third of opens is stellar in most cases. For clicks, 5 percent is pretty decent as well.

At MailPoet, our newsletters (like the one you're currently reading) gets over 35% open and clicks.

In other words, you are one of nearly 3000 of our 11,800 subscribers who are reading these lines. We're quite happy to reach so many people!

A good open rate is relative to the size of your list, your content, the catchiness of the subject line, the frequency you send, and deliverability.

Of course, if you have less than 10%, something is wrong, and you might want to figure out why. You can ask for our help too.

In most cases, the important thing is to work your way up from where you are. If you have 15% of open rate, which is pretty decent, try to reach 20% over the next couple of newsletters.

Version 2.6.7 Is Nearly Ready

We're currently working on finalizing our upcoming "bug fix" release.

Nearly 20 issues will be resolved.

We might include our Premium CRON service for free users. This will help you send on time, without delay. It's our honest effort to make sure everyone enjoys reliability.

Users who are on our beta will get a notification to update their MailPoet as early as next week.

Thanks again to those who report back, we are forever grateful.

1.5 Million Downloads

Reaching new heights is fun and rewarding. That's just what happened to us.

Our download counter has exploded ever since we released version 2.6 in March:

Bar chart of our downloads

It took us 2 years to reach 1 million downloads. We got 500,000 in the last 3 months alone.

What happened?

There's been a huge adoption of our plugin in the months leading to March.

When we released 2.6, several thousands users updated their plugins, and thus increased our total downloads.

This in turn had the (positive) side effect of pushing us in the top 10 Most Popular plugins

Hitting the top of the chart exposed us to more users, and downloads in return.

This virtuous circle makes us sit solidly at the top of the WordPress repository of plugins. No easy feat.

Building the Right Team

Here at MailPoet, we focused on the humans behind the plugin.

As we grow, it's critical that we have the right colleagues to count on.

In this blog post, I share my impressions of our team after returning from Brazil, where I met up with our Brazilian crew of three.

I also mention a few words on our upcoming projects.

We've Been Meeting Up

We've been travelling quite a bit in the last few weeks:

  • 2 of us have been WordCamp Miami
  • 4 of us have met at WordCamp Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and even gave talks
  • 4 of us met in Lille, France, for a team meetup
  • 1 of us (Kim) is going to WordCamp Hamburg this weekend

Here are 2 pics of last weekend, in Lille, France:

We saved our sparkling smiles for the hard core readers like yourself who truly indulge themselves until the very last line of our newsletter.

Thanks for reading!
